Wausau Area Nightlife

From casual to the refined, the Wausau area has a great mix of night life and entertainment.  Downtown Wausau has a number of pubs and lounges with live music playing regularly.

The City Grill Bistro is an intimate setting for live music that features a variety of genres including jazz and blues.  Down the street is Limericks Public House, offering a diverse band schedule.  Hear the sounds of regional bands and their own house band, The Townies, at Malarky's Pub just a block to the east.  In the summertime, the 400 Block is a fantastic outdoor venue for the free Concerts on the Square concert series, held mid June-August from 6 pm to 8 pm.  Adjacent to the square is the Grand Theater, which offers a schedule of performances that include national and regional touring productions, concerts, plays, ballets, and more. A few doors down on Fourth Street is the Intermission Bar, with free live music five nights a week and featuring some of the Midwest's finest talent.  Head north on Third Street to The Glass Hat with a calendar of DJ's and live bands.  From hip-hop to bluegrass, and rock n' roll to R&B, The Glass Hat has an eclectic mix of music.  Across the street is the Polack Inn; a bar full of character(s) and the east side's premier venue for underground music.

During the winter months, you can play in the snow even after the sun goes down.  Depending on the day, you can stay outside right up until 9 pm on lighted runs and trails at Granite Peak Ski AreaSylvan Tubing Hill, and while cross country skiing at Nine Mile Forest.  At Granite Peak, you can hang out after a day on the slopes at the 10th Mountain Chalet or the Sundance Chalet.  Check their website www.skigranitepeak.com for an entertainment schedule.  There are also a number of evening snowshoe hikes at Rib Mountain State Park and Robert W. Monk Gardens.

During the summer months, take in a Wisconsin Woodchucks baseball game at historic Athletic Park.  Each Wednesday during the summer, join us on the 400 Block for the weekly Concert on the Square!  Many local taverns also feature horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, or cornhole.

Local favorites like bowling and billiards are also a hit.  Head to one of our several bowling centers to take on fun such as "moonlight bowling" featuring music, prizes, and glow in the dark bowling balls.  For billiards head to Dale's Weston Lanes, home to the Weston Cue Club, or check out Sconni's Alehouse & Eatery in Schofield.  Sconni's billiards hall features nine pool tables and décor with a rustic, yet modern take on Northwoods Wisconsin style.  Sconni's also has a full menu and 48 beers on tap seasonally.

When you're in town, pick up a free copy of the weekly City Pages newspaper for a listing of concerts and other performances going on around the Central Wisconsin area.
