Greetings Badger State Games Competitors,
Thank you for participating in the 2022 Badger State Games! We
have 29 teams signed up for the spiel. We are excited to host you in
Wausau, Wisconsin. Within this letter you will find some details to
help you prepare for the weekend of competition. Please note, we
could use one more Junior team. Because of the pool play format, if
we don’t get one more junior team, a few other teams will get byes
and only a two‐game guarantee. I’m tasking all participants to reach
out to any junior curlers that can make a team, so we don’t have byes. You can contact me at
robertjsplinter@gmail.com with any questions.
DRAW TIMES
See the attached draw sheet. First games for the Men’s and Junior’s division will be played at 5:30pm
Friday, and the Adult Open division will play at 8pm Friday.
ADULT OPEN DIVISION
We have separated the teams into three different pools. Each team will play three games with other
teams in their pool. A winner of each pool with be decided by record, and then a tiebreaker draw score.
The winner from each pool, and a wildcard team, will advance to the semifinals Sunday morning. All ties
will be decided using the tie breaking method explained later. The advancing teams will then be ranked
1 ‐ 4 for the semifinals based on their record with tiebreakers used. The winners of the Sunday morning
games will advance to the Gold/Silver Medal game and the two losing teams will play for the Bronze
medal.
MEN'S DIVISION
All teams will participate in a round robin to determine seeding for the semifinal matches on Sunday
morning. The teams will be ranked 1 ‐ 4 for the semifinals based on their record with tiebreakers used.
The winners of the Sunday morning games will advance to the Gold/Silver Medal game and the two
losing teams will play for the Bronze medal.
JUNIOR DIVISION
We have separated the teams into three pools. Each pool will have a round robin to determine the
winner of the pool. The winner from each pool will advance to the semifinals Sunday morning, along
with one wildcard team determined by record and tiebreaker score. All ties will be decided using the tie
breaking method explained later. The advancing teams will then be ranked 1 ‐ 4 for the semifinals based
on their record with tiebreakers used. The winners of the Sunday morning games will advance to the
Gold/Silver Medal game and the two losing teams will play for the Bronze medal.
TIEBREAKING MEATHOD
After the second game in each division is played, each member of the team will throw one rock
trying to get as close to the center of the button (the pin) as possible. The cumulative distance of the
teams four throws measured in inches from the center of the button will be used in any tie breaking
situations during the tournament.
NOTE:
A) Any stone that misses the house will be counted as 100”.
B) Sweeping is permitted for the tie breaker throws.
